This tutorial covers the three basic elements needed for creating a quantum
computer. Quantum computers have the possibility of running a few notable
algorithms much faster then their classical counterparts. However, the
requirements for creating a working quantum computer are difficult to
achieve. Trapped ion systems have overcome all the requirement and have
been shown to be nearly ideal candidates for implementing a quantum computer.
The three elements needed for a quantum computer are:
- Qubit Isolation from the environment
- Excellent Qubit Detection
- Strong Qubit Interaction
This tutorial will walk through all three requirements, explaining how
trapped ion systems accomplish them. Use the navigation bar on the left to
skip to a particular topic, or use the "next" and "previous"
buttons on the bottom bar to step through the entire tutorial.
